From ancient meditation practices to cutting-edge neuroscience, it has been demonstrated that working with the connection between mind and body is an essential part of overall well-being. 

Our my minds and bodies are not separate entities. At all times, they are engaged in a complex dance—receiving and making sense of a constant stream of sensory information that generates thoughts, actions and emotions. When stressed, this system can go off balance, leading to mental, emotional, and physical distress. 

Using mindfulness and somatic practices in therapy, such as meditation, grounding, tracking sensation, breathing and movement, increases awareness of what is occurring in the present moment.

These practices, which can be used both in and outside of session, have the ability to: 

  • Calm the “fight or flight” response 

  • Soothe stress and anxiety 

  • Reduce reactivity

  • Respond more skillfully in difficult situations

  • Work with emotional pain stored in the body

  • Increase clarity, focus and equilibrium

  • Enhance the ability to connect with others
